Report from Chris Costello Bishop Volunteer Fire Department public information officer
Silver fire
Bishop Fire was toned out a little after 2 yesterday afternoon. Upon arrival the fire was approximately 5 acres burning in heavy fuel. The winds were from the South, pushing the Fire to the North. There were multiple changes in the winds spreading the fire in all directions. Mid afternoon, the fire advanced quickly toward the community of Laws. Much of the area had no access other than by aircraft. Two helicopters were on site fighting the fire, and multiple agencies were on the highway and roads to stop the fire from reaching Laws. They did an outstanding job saving that community. In the early evening, the southeast progression of the fire was stopped, but the winds had been driving the fire to the west. As of one am this morning, when we returned to the station, the fire was still burning in heavy fuels through inaccessible terrain. Of concern today, a high wind Warning is in effec...

Just wanted everyone who has been calling and visiting our website that all the updates are available on Facebook as we did report most of yesterday afternoon and into the late evening live. Today we went around and got additional information to share. These winds that are picking up is what CalFire is concerned about. The main hotspots are in marsh lands making it difficult to gain access. The fire burned right up to Jean Blanc Road. Cattle were out today roaming the land. We will post some pictures here for you. https://sierrawave.net/silver-fire-updates-located-on-facebook/

Eastern Sierra Council Alliance Hosts 8th Annual Colorectal Cancer Walk
Last Saturday, March 29th, the Eastern Sierra Council Alliance proudly held its 8th annual Colorectal Cancer Walk. A great group of people donated their time to make the event happen. They demonstrated their dedication to raising awareness and supporting those affected by colorectal cancer. Coach Palu had some volunteer high school students there to make sure the runners were safe crossing the roads. I fondly nicknamed them the "Yellow Vest Gang” for their bright yellow vest attire. They were a great group of young men. I have to be honest. I had an absolute blast serving as the emcee for the event—the overwhelming love and support from friends, family, and community members. The many warm hugs I received throughout the day were more than enough payment for my time and effort. Laughing Parrot is a proud sponsor of the Eastern Sierra Cancer Alliance. More importantly, a special thanks goes out to Cheryl Under...

News Release
Mammoth Community Water District
PO Box 597, Mammoth Lakes, CA 93546
760-934-2596
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 27, 2025
CONTACT: Michael Draper, Regulatory Services Division Help Keep Our Sewers “FOG” Free
Pouring “FOG”, or fats, oils, and grease, in any drain can create disruptive and expensive clogs.
Mammoth Lakes, California – The District asks that all residents, visitors, and businesses help to protect our community from sewer backups by preventing fats, oils, and grease (FOG) from entering drains. When substances like food scraps, grease, and oils make their way into kitchen sinks and garbage disposals, they can block sewer pipes, leading to overflows. As FOG cools and solidifies, it sticks to the inside of pipes, restricting the flow of sewage. Over time, this buildup can cause serious blockages, resulting in sewer backups that affect homes and businesses. Sewer overflows are not only messy and costly but also harmful to the environment.
