Owens Valley / Death Valley / Mammoth / Mono County Dennis Mattinson / Eastern Sierra Atmospheric Forecaster Sierra Wave Media / KSRW-FM 92.5 Forecast Discussion - Fri Mar 29 2024 After a snow event in Mammoth (12 inches at the main Lodge) and windy weather (Olancha G 47 mph) in the Owens Valley Wednesday into Thursday, attention turns to an upper level low currently sitting off the CA coast. It has strengthened with 500 mb heights at 549 dm. It will move from West to East across the region tonight thru Sunday. Latest QPF for the event 0.25 - 0.5 inches. This system does have a Southern focus, so not overly impressive. Still though expect moderate rainfall / snowfall with isolated thunderstorms in the Owens Valley, with snow levels down to 6K feet. Aspendell looks like 5 - 8 inches. For Mammoth, the Main Lodge should get some 11 - 17 inches, with snow levels down to 5K feet. Even Death Valley will have showers on Saturday. Aspendell could see as much as 5 - 10 inches and Mammoth 10 - 15 inches. Along with this, Bishop could see up to 0.5 inches of rain thru the weekend.
