Owens Valley / Death Valley / Mammoth / Mono County Dennis Mattinson / Eastern Sierra Forecaster Sierra Wave Media / KSRW-FM 92.5 Forecast Discussion - Fri Jun 28 2024 Very stable temperatures today and over the weekend, with a Westerly flow in place. Also expect hazy conditions throughout our area from the various Wildfires to our North and West. For the first week in July, high pressure builds back strongly over the West. Not good news for those of you who like cooler weather. So temps next week will run about 5 - 8 degress above normal, with 103° likely in Bishop next Wednesday. Remember, July is historically the hottest month of the year in Inyo and Mono counties. Say hello to the "Dog Days of Summer."...DMATT Your Temperatures Today: Bishop: 99 / 60 Big Pine: 99 / 64 Independence: 99 / 67 Lone Pine: 99 / 70 Olancha: 99 / 69 Mammoth Lakes: 75 / 51 Death Valley: 119 / 87 https://sierrawave.net/?p=86323

The Owens Valley / Mammoth Lakes / Mono County Dennis Mattinson / Sierra Atmospheric Forecaster Sierra Wave Media / KSRW-FM 92.5 Forecast Discussion - Wed Jun 26 2024 There's a 30 - 40% chance of showers and t-storms today, mostly of the scattered or isolated nature. Those storms will favor higher terrain. Above average temps will continue this week for most locations in the Owens Valley. Thursday / Friday a trough will slide thru the PACNW, with maybe a cool down of a degree or two thru the weekend. That trough will also decrease t-storm chances and bring on breezy weather (of course)...DMATT Your temperatures Today: Bishop: 100 / 59 Big Pine: 99 / 64 Independence: 99 / 68 Lone Pine: 99 / 72 Olancha: 101 / 72 Mammoth Lakes: 75 / 51 Death Valley: 122 / 92 https://sierrawave.net/?p=86157

The Owens Valley / Mammoth Lakes / Mono County / Death Valley Dennis Mattinson / Sierra Atmospheric Forecaster Sierra Wave Media / KSRW-FM 92.5 Area Forecast Discussion - Tue Jun 25 2024 Very warm temps with afternoon breezes most of this week, as a trough over the PACNW brings on the breezes and a ridge over the S. Rockies brings on the heat. In addition, the transport of moisture around that ridge, into the Eastern Sierra, will bring the best chances of t-storms to the Sierra Crest and Mammoth today...DMATT Your Temperatures Today: Bishop: 100 / 62 Big Pine: 99 / 67 Independence: 99 / 71 Lone Pine: 100 / 74 Olancha: 101 / 74 Mammoth Lakes: 77 / 53 Death Valley: 123 / 96 https://sierrawave.net/?p=86112

The Owens Valley / Mammoth Lakes / Mono County / Death Valley Dennis Mattinson / Sierra Atmospheric Forecaster Sierra Wave Media / KSRW-FM 92.5 Area Forecast Discussion - Mon Jun 24 2024 After a hot weekend, where even Reno came close to hitting 100°, afternoon breezes return as a trough set up over the PACNW. A dry SW flow then continues bringing stable conditions this week. The only exception will be Tuesday, where some mid level moisture will sneak around our ridge and bring low end chances of t-storms to Mammoth...DMATT Your Temperatures Today: Bishop: 101 / 64 Big Pine: 100 / 67 Independence: 101 / 72 Lone Pine: 100 / 75 Olancha: 102 / 75 Mammoth Lakes: 76 / 54 Death Valley: 122 / 95 https://sierrawave.net/?p=86101

As some of you may already know, we initially believed our email subscriber list was lost due to a server backup issue caused by a third party. Consequently, we requested everyone to sign up again. However, unbeknownst to us, our newsletter service provider had backed up our email list. Not only did we recover thousands of email addresses, but we also discovered that we've entered a higher tier due to exceeding our email quota, which necessitates an increase in our subscription costs. Despite this unexpected expense, it's a positive challenge because it confirms that we now manage one of the largest—if not the largest—email newsletter subscriber lists. Do not worry. We will not bombard you with emails. We will allow you to continue to grab the news as you want it from our website or social media pages but will begin doing a monthly newsletter.  This news has brought great excitement to the team at Sierra Wave this weekend.           https://sierrawave.net/sierra-wave-surprised-...

Owens Valley / Death Valley / Mammoth / Mono County Dennis Mattinson / Eastern Sierra Forecaster Sierra Wave Media / KSRW-FM 92.5 Forecast Discussion - Fri Jun 21 2024 Today is the first "Full" day of Summer and the last day of sub 100° temps in the Owens Valley. Saturday / Sunday brings on the heat, with 102° in Bishop. All due to a strong ridge axis located to our South, with a SW flow persisting. Generally your temps then should vary little most of next week, with the low 100s in the Owens Valley and the upper 70s in Mammoth. So you can expect a Moderate Heat Risk to be in place for the Owens Valley. Fortunately the nights will still be cool, with a very dry air mass in place. BTW Death looks to hit 123° next week...DMATT Your Temperatures Today:. The Owens Valley / Mammoth Lakes / Mono County Dennis Mattinson / Sierra Atmospheric Forecaster Sierra Wave Media / KSRW-FM 92.5 Forecast Discussion - Wed Jun 19 2024 A little warmer today (still a bit breezy) as that unseasonably strong, the upper low holds. As that low weakens Thursday, we will see temps on the rise, really taking off the second half of the week, as high pressure builds into the area. So expect temps to run some 8 - 10 degrees above average by Saturday and Sunday. That translates to 103° in Bishop over the weekend...DMATT Your temperatures Today: Bishop: 91 / 51 Big Pine: 89 / 56 Independence: 89 / 59 Lone Pine: 89 / 62 Olancha: 90 / 62 Mammoth Lakes: 67 / 44 Death Valley: 111 / 82 https://sierrawave.net/?p=85990

The Owens Valley / Mammoth Lakes / Mono County / Death Valley Dennis Mattinson / Sierra Atmospheric Forecaster Sierra Wave Media / KSRW-FM 92.5 Area Forecast Discussion - Tue Jun 18 2024 After a breezy day yesterday, temps will still remain on the cooler side today. All due to a troughing feature moving into the Great Basin. Precipitation chances with this front look minimal, with a dry air mass in place. As the troughing fades and is replaced by high pressure, temps then return to seasonal average by midweek, before heating up to low 100s in Bishop Saturday and Sunday. So it's back to July in June weather in our Forecast Area...DMATT Your Temperatures Today: Bishop: 85 / 48 Big Pine: 84 / 53 Independence: 85 / 57 Lone Pine: 85 / 60 Olancha: 86 / 59 Mammoth Lakes: 63 / 40 Death Valley: 103 / 79 https://sierrawave.net/?p=85954
