Inyo National Forest announces seasonal hiring for upcoming recreation season
(Bishop, Calif., February 12, 2026) – The Inyo National Forest will be hiring seasonal employees for the upcoming recreation season and is encouraging local residents to apply.
“Our seasonal employees are the backbone of summer operations—keeping our campgrounds, trails, and recreation sites open, safe and welcoming for visitors,” said acting Forest Supervisor Nathan Sill. “These positions offer meaningful work, hands-on experience, and the chance to support public lands close to home."
The Inyo National Forest will be recruiting for a variety of roles, including:
- Recreation facility maintenance
- Visitor center staffing
- Trail maintenance
- Wildlife survey
- Wilderness protection
- Off-highway vehicle patrol and maintenance
These positions are in addition to seasonal fire hire events, already underway. Bringing on seasonal employees will help improve trails, campgrounds and facilities for safer, reliable and enjoyable recreation experiences for all.
Visitors will benefit greatly from seasonal staff’s friendly faces, whether at visitor centers or out on the trails. Support for wildlife surveys will be instrumental for fuels and active management planning on the forest.
People interested in applying will need to establish accounts on USAJobs.gov and prepare a resume that meets requirements. USAJOBS has a page dedicated to helping answer questions. Potential applicants must be 18 years old by their first day of work.
“Seasonal jobs can be a first step into a natural resources career, a way to build experience, or simply a chance to spend the summer working outside,” added Sill. “We encourage anyone interested to apply.”
How to Apply
Applicants can view open job announcements and submit applications through USAJobs.gov beginning Feb. 20.
Application periods, qualifications, and start dates vary by position. Applicants are encouraged to review job announcements carefully for deadlines and required materials.
