Rep. Kiley Statement on Today’s House Passage of DHS Funding Bill
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Kevin Kiley (I-CA) issued this statement following today's House passage of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding bill: “The passage of this bill to fund DHS is 75 days overdue. Government shutdowns represent a failure of Congress to fulfill its most basic responsibility, and this DHS shutdown was especially unacceptable at a time of heightened threats to the homeland. I have voted to fund the Department every chance I’ve had, and I am glad the hardworking men and women at DHS will not have to miss paychecks going forward. Americans are asking us to move on from this era of shutdowns, gridlock, and hyper-partisanship, and to find common ground for the good of the country." ### https://sierrawave.net/press-release-rep-kiley-statement-on-todays-house-passage-of-dhs-funding-bill/

State Route 108 (Sonora Pass) Reopens from Winter Closure
MONO COUNTY — Caltrans opened State Route 108 (Sonora Pass) from winter closure at 10:00 am today. This follows weeks of snow removal by Caltrans maintenance crews from Sonora Junction in District 9 and Long Barn in District 10. On State Route 108, maintenance teams encountered snow as deep as 10’ on the highway, along with downed trees and debris as they worked toward the summit of the pass. This opening marks the earliest that State Route 108 (Sonora Pass) has been opened in the past five years. With snowstorms forecasted in the upcoming weeks, Caltrans may close the roadway in case of inclement weather to protect the traveling public. Only one Caltrans District 9 highway—State Route 203 at Mammoth Mountain—remains in a winter closure. Snow removal on that highway has already started. To assist i...

Dennis Mattinson / Sierra Atmospheric Forecaster Synopsis - THU APR 30 2026 Mammoth Main received 2 additional inches of new snow in the last few days. Weak troughing will roughly remain over the Western US thru end of week. This weakness will allow dry weather and slight temperature raises thru Friday. The only exception will be Mammoth which will get few snow showers. Slow warming then thru the weekend, as a moderate ridge takes hold. This will allow temps to peak a bit above normal by Saturday. By Sunday into early next week, another trough drops down the CA coast. If nothing else, we will get a cooldown trend by about Tuesday...DMATT Area Wide Temperatures Today: Bishop: 76 / 39

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 27, 2026 SACRAMENTO - The California Highway Patrol will conduct a 24-hour Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP) focused on speeding to help reduce serious and fatal crashes across California. The MEP begins at 6 a.m. on April 28 and ends at 5:59 a.m. on April 29. The enforcement effort will take place throughout the day and night, emphasizing that there is no safe time or place to drive at unsafe speeds. During the operation, officers will monitor roadways and take enforcement action against drivers who exceed posted speed limits or travel at unsafe speeds for the conditions. Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to react to changing traffic conditions and greatly increases the severity of crashes. Even a slight increase in speed can significantly affect the outcome of a crash. “Speeding continues to be one of the leading causes of serious and fatal crashes on California’s roadways. When drivers choose to exceed safe speeds, they reduce their ability to re...

Dennis Mattinson / Weather & Atmospheric Forecaster Synopsis - MON APR 27 2026 The final days of April continue to look like the weather we had over the weekend. A large upper level trough is currently situated over the West Coast, with the bulk of its energy located over the Northern Rockies. The base of that trough does stretch far enough South to influence our region. So after our weekend system which brought showers to the Owens Valley and a few inches to Mammoth Main, showers are expected to end late today. Dear SCE Customers,
A Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) is when an electric utility temporarily shuts off power to reduce the risk of a wildfire caused by utility equipment. Dangerous fire weather conditions — which include strong winds, dry vegetation and low humidity — drive PSPS events. Under these conditions, a fire could spread rapidly, posing a significant safety risk. PSPS reduces the risk of winds causing debris or trees to come into contact with utility equipment and starting a fire.
To learn about SCE’s Wildfire Mitigation Plan and help you stay informed and prepared for PSPS, SCE is hosting a live discussion for Mono and Inyo County customers at the Clint Quilter Consolidated Office Building on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 6:00-7:30PM (with option to join the virtual livestream).
Customers will learn about: -

The Assembly resolution officially recognizes the Broncos as the CIF 5-A State Champions, a milestone achievement for the program. Tangipa, who played for Fresno State from 2015 to 2018, remains an avid football fan and has followed the Broncos' journey closely. “He loves football, he loves watching you guys compete,” Gilbert told the gathered players and coaching staff. “On behalf of the entire Ca...
