Dennis Mattinson / Weather & Atmospheric Forecaster Synopsis - TUE AUG 04 2026 Ongoing prolonged triple digit heat wave is still on tap this week for the Owens Valley. Overnight lows will be in the mid 60s, offering little relief from the heat. Typical afternoon breezes with some smoke and haze from the various fires in the Intermountain West. All of this and a Heat Advisory is in effect most of the week. I've always believed that the stories we tell shape the future we create. For the past five years, River Queen Provisions and the River Queen Holdings Opportunity Zone Fund have been my attempt to help shape a different story about Bishop and the Eastern Sierra. Despite hard work, significant personal sacrifice, meaningful progress, and steadfast community support, the financing ultimately never came together in a sustainable way to bring that vision to life. While there is certainly disappointment in this outcome, gratitude has become the feeling that remains. I'm deeply grateful to the community leaders, friends, family, investors, collaborators, and supporters who believed in this vision long before there were public gatherings, completed plans, or a finished project to point to. Bishop's Wyatt Miears Finishes National Runner-Up in Discus at Junior Olympic Championships
BISHOP, Calif. — Bishop Union High School sophomore Wyatt Miears closed out his 2026 track and field season with the biggest accomplishment of his young career, earning National Runner-Up honors in the 15–16 Boys Discus at the USATF National Junior Olympic Track & Field Championships in Norwalk, California.
With his second-place finish, Miears earned Junior Olympic All-American recognition while competing against the top young discus throwers in the United States.
The top eight finishers in the national championship represented some of the strongest throwing states in the country: - Michael Stinson – South Carolina

- The Extreme Heat Warning for much of the mid and lower elevations of the Mojave Desert and Southern Great Basin has been extended through Wednesday evening.
- The Heat Advisory has also been extended through Wednesday evening for the higher elevations of the Spring Mountains, Sheep Range, White Mountains, and Sierra.
