Even though we are in Fall, temperatures and humidities through the rest of the month are expected to be more like June. An unseasonably strong ridge of high pressure is pushing in from the NW. That high has dropped down over Oregon and is forecast to move SE, over New Mexico in a day or so. Expect temps to reach 93° in Independence Thursday and Friday.

Signage Acknowledging Timbisha Shoshone Ordered Removed From Death Valley Exhibits Just days after Death Valley National Park issued a press release celebrating the shared history and long-term relationship between the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe and Death Valley, the Trump administration has ordered the National Park Service to remove signage acknowledging the tribe from park exhibits. The directive instructs the National Park Service to remove or revise interpretive signage that recognizes the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe’s historical and ongoing connection to the land within Death Valley National Park.  Secretary’s Order 3431 directs federal land management agencies to conduct comparable audits of all content made available to the public. No Avalanche on Hwy 395; Chain Controls Causing Truck Turnarounds Mono County, CA — Rumors have been circulating that Highway 395 between Lee Vining and Mono City was closed due to an avalanche, with trucks being turned away. Authorities confirm that there is no avalanche in the area. The Bishop Branch of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) verified that trucks and other vehicles without chains are being turned around at both Lee Vining and Mono City. Chain controls are in effect due to winter weather conditions, which can make this stretch of highway slippery and hazardous.
