FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
State Route 120 W Reopens from Winter Closure
MONO COUNTY — Caltrans opened State Route 120 W at Lee Vining from its winter closure today. This follows weeks of snow removal by Caltrans maintenance crews from Lee Vining in District 9. In addition to the substantial snow removal process, crews on State Route 120 W encountered large boulders in the roadway and extremely damaged pavement from rockfall. Last Wednesday and Thursday, a Caltrans blasting crew blew up largest of the boulders that had fallen onto the highway before beginning work on repairs that were necessary to open the road to vehicle traffic.
The reopening of State Route 120 W coincides with the reopening of Tioga Pass and Tioga Road in Yosemite National Park. For information on the Yosemite NPS reservation system, visit: https://www.nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/reservations.htm
Only one District 9 highway—State Route 203 at Mammoth Mountain—remains in a winter closure. Snow removal on that highway has already started.
With the summer travel season here, now is the best time to download the Quickmap app to your iOS or Android device. The app gives users the latest information on highway conditions, including lane closures, road closures, and rest area availability. Before you hit the road this year, plan your trip with the Quickmap app or website at quickmap.dot.ca.gov. You can also call the Road Condition Hotline at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).
