Tangipa Statement on Men in Women’s CIF Track Championship

SACRAMENTO, CA — Assemblyman David Tangipa is speaking out against the California Interscholastic Federation’s (CIF) decision to allow a biological male to compete in the CIF State Track & Field Championships under the girls division—a move that directly contradicts federal Title IX protections and President Trump’s executive order aimed at safeguarding women’s sports.

The CIF decision to launch a pilot policy that openly acknowledges that this will unfairly bump deserving biological female athletes out of qualifying spots. Their own policy states that “any biological female that would have earned the next qualifying mark” must be granted a special exemption just to make it to State.

Tangipa issued the following statement: “This pilot program is an admission that opportunities are being stolen from female athletes. This decision doesn’t effect a select few athletes, but rather every female competitor in the state. The decision to protect women’s sports was already decided with the creation of Title IX. This directly contradicts federal law that requires women’s sports to be protected, our women and girls deserve better. Let us be clear, men do not belong in women’s sports.”

President Trump’s executive order made clear that the integrity of women’s athletics must be protected—yet CIF’s policy does the opposite, elevating activism over fairness and placing girls at a competitive disadvantage.

Assemblyman Tangipa is calling on CIF to immediately reverse its policy and restore equal, protected opportunities for all female athletes across California. https://sierrawave.net/tangipa-statement-on-men-in-womens-cif-track-championship/
