SCAM ALERT: Fraudulent Consulate Appointments Targeting Mono County Residents

MONO COUNTY, CA – August 4, 2025 – The County of Mono is issuing a public warning about a scam involving a fraudulent Facebook page and social media ads falsely claiming to schedule appointments for an upcoming visit from the Mexican Consulate.

A social media post advertising a "Consulado móvil de Sacramento en Mammoth Lakes” on "Sábado 23 de Agosto" is circulating. This fraudulent promotion requests residents to call a phone number to reserve an appointment, stating a "Costo por Trámite" (cost per procedure).

The Mono County Health and Human Services Department wishes to clarify that the scheduling of appointments for the Mexican Consulate is always free of charge. Neither the County of Mono nor the Consulate will ever request payment for this service. These mobile Consulate visits are coordinated with legitimate government agencies, and the fraudulent pages are not authorized vendors.

Residents are strongly urged to exercise extreme caution and not to provide any personal, financial, or payment information to these deceptive services.

If you have already paid for an appointment or provided personal information:

- Report the incident to local law enforcement.

- Contact your bank or payment service provider to report the fraudulent charge.

For legitimate information and to schedule an appointment:

- For official updates on mobile consulate visits in Mono County, please contact the Mono County Health and Human Services Department at (760) 924-1789.

- Please help us spread the word about this scam to protect others in our community.
