Synopsis - FRI APR 10 2026

Today and this weekend's weather will be brought to you courtesy of a low pressure system in the EPAC, getting absorbed by a longwave trough from the Gulf of Alaska (GLA). The colder storm from the GLA should cause snow levels to drop to 6,500 - 7,000 feet by Saturday / Sunday. We are now looking at 10 - 15 inches of new snow over Mammoth Main by Monday AM. These back to back systems should create windy conditions especially along the Crest. Bishop and the Owens Valley should see a ~30% chance of showers Saturday and a ~50% chance on Sunday...DMATT

Signage Acknowledging Timbisha Shoshone Ordered Removed From Death Valley Exhibits Just days after Death Valley National Park issued a press release celebrating the shared history and long-term relationship between the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe and Death Valley, the Trump administration has ordered the National Park Service to remove signage acknowledging the tribe from park exhibits. The directive instructs the National Park Service to remove or revise interpretive signage that recognizes the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe’s historical and ongoing connection to the land within Death Valley National Park.  Secretary’s Order 3431 directs federal land management agencies to conduct comparable audits of all content made available to the public. Area Forecast Discussion Owens Valley / Mammoth Lakes / Mono County / Death Valley Dennis Mattinson / Sierra Atmospheric Forecaster Synopsis - WED FEB 18 2026 Today snow showers linger, mainly over Mammoth and the Sierra, generally clearing in the Owens Valley. Then another fast moving shortwave looks to hit the area Thursday thru Thursday evening. Looks like another 4 - 8 inches of new snow at the Main Lodge by Friday AM. Bishop should get rain and light snow by Friday AM as well.
