Assemblyman David Tangipa’s AB 1560 Passes State Assembly
Clovis, CA — Today, Assemblyman David Tangipa (R-Clovis) announced the passage of AB 1560 through the California State Assembly, advancing legislation aimed at restoring integrity, accountability, and public trust in state government.
AB 1560 would prohibit individuals convicted of public corruption-related offenses from serving as registered lobbyists in California. The bill is designed to close a loophole that currently allows individuals convicted of crimes involving fraud, abuse of public office, and violations of public trust to return to influencing government policy after serving their sentence.
The legislation comes amid growing public frustration with corruption scandals and insider influence in Sacramento.
“Californians are tired of a system where politically connected insiders can abuse the public trust and then walk right back into the halls of power,” said Assemblyman Tangipa. “AB 1560 sends a simple message: if you use public office or political influence to commit crimes against the people of California, you should lose the privilege of lobbying their government.”
Tangipa also thanked members from both parties who worked to move the legislation forward and acknowledged the importance of restoring faith in government institutions.
“I appreciate my colleagues on both sides of the aisle who recognized the importance of this issue and helped advance AB 1560,” Tangipa added. “When corruption goes unchecked, the public loses faith in government. If we allow convicted insiders to continue influencing policy and legislation after committing serious offenses, we guarantee a future where Sacramento answers to special interests instead of the people. This bill is about restoring trust, protecting the integrity of our institutions, and making clear that public service is a responsibility, not an opportunity for personal gain.”
AB 1560 now moves to the California State Senate for consideration.
