FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Paving within Bishop Pavement Project to Start on Sunday

What you need to know: Paving on the Bishop Pavement Project will start at the Barlow Lane intersection on Sunday, July 14. Drivers can expect delays.

BISHOP — Asphalt grinding and paving operations on U.S. 395 within the Bishop Pavement Project will start on Sunday, June 14, at 4:00 pm between Barlow Lane and Wye Road. Crews will start grinding the outside southbound lane and then switch to the northbound outside lane at Wye Road.

Crews will repave U.S. 395 from Barlow Lane to Jay Street this summer. To do so, crews will lay down more than 18,000 tons of asphalt, and this work will happen mostly at night. During paving operations within the Meadow Farms ADA Project boundaries between Barlow Lane and See Vee Lane, work on Meadow Farms will temporarily pause. For more information about the Bishop Pavement Projects, visit the Caltrans District 9 Projects page: Bishop Pavement Project | Caltrans.

TRAFFIC IMPACT: There will be intermittent lane closures on U.S. 395 in both directions during paving activities. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 am. Local businesses will remain fully accessible to vehicle traffic and pedestrians.

FUNDING INFORMATION: The Bishop Pavement Project received $18.36 million from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA) – also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Under IIJA, California will receive an estimated $41.9 billion over five years. IIJA provides significant funding to rebuild California’s transportation system, including support to improve roadways, bridges, freight projects, public transportation, infrastructure safety enhancements, and to increase infrastructure resiliency to the impacts of severe weather and climate change. For more information about IIJA, visit Building California: Transforming Infrastructure for a Better Future | Home.

The Bishop Pavement Project received $2.4 million from Senate Bill (SB) 1. SB 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1. Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment or materials, or any construction-related issues.

Travelers are asked to be attentive to workers on the highway, slow for the cone zone, and move over whenever possible to give additional clearance. Be Safe and Be Work Zone Alert! And remember to #SlowDownInTown.
