BILLY GENE TILLEY 1936-2026
In Loving Memory of Billy Gene Tilley
Billy Gene Tilley, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2026, at the age of 90.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Tilley, and his daughter, Linda Tilley. He leaves behind his wife, Florence Tilley; his son, Gary Tilley; his daughter, Donna Mayfield; four granddaughters, Stacey Bradley, Rikki Haskins, Teri Caster, and Cindi Michael; and ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, extended family members, and many friends who became family.
Billy’s journey began in Flippin, Arkansas, where he was raised surrounded by a large, loving family. It was there that he learned the values of hard work and devotion to family — two guiding principles that became the backbone of his life. As a young man, he relocated to the Owens Valley, where he spent most of his life raising his family and working diligently for Caltrans. After retiring, he moved to Ridgecrest to spend his remaining years close to his growing family.
Billy’s true legacy is far too grand to put into words. To his family, he was the man who had all the answers, knew how to fix anything, and would drop everything at a moment’s notice to help someone in need or take a grandchild fishing. He lived by example, instilling his values of honesty, integrity, and family unity in everyone he met. His life was entirely dedicated to his family, and they were equally dedicated to him.
Though he is no longer with us, his love and lessons will forever remain in our hearts. His spirit lives on in the many pieces of himself he left behind — in the gardens we tend, the outdoors we enjoy, and the precious time we spend together.
Billy will be laid to rest on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the East Line Street Cemetery in Bishop, California. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you honor Billy’s memory by spending meaningful time with your own loved ones.
Take your grandkids fishing, build a project with your son, teach your children how to sew on a button, cook a Sunday dinner together, or simply call your mom. Family was everything to Billy, and living out these moments is the greatest tribute you can pay to his beautiful life. https://sierrawave.net/billy-gene-tilley-1936-2026/
