Traffic Advisory for the Week of 7/27/2026 to 7/31/2026


 

EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of July 27 – July 31.

 

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

 


New Traffic Impacts


 

Eastern Kern County

 

·    State Route 58 Slab Replacement – On State Route 58 from Broome Road to Woodford-Tehachapi Road, the westbound outside lane and shoulder will close as maintenance crews replace slabs on Tuesday through Saturday, July 25, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

·    Kern River Valley Sign Work – On State Route 178 W from Kelso Valley Road to State Route 14 near Inyokern, crews will install new traffic signs Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. There will be intermittent one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

 

Inyo County

 

·    Wye Road Digouts Project – The eastbound lane of Wye Road, the connector road between U.S. 395 and U.S. 6 in Bishop, will close while crews dig out cracks and repave the roadway on Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Businesses in the area will remain accessible, and drivers may experience brief delays.

·    Aspendell Utility Work – On State Route 168 W from N. Lake Road to Bishop Creek Camp Road, utility crews will replace poles Monday through Wednesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 5-minute delays.

·    Badwater 135 Ultramarathon - The Badwater 135 Ultramarathon will begin on Monday in Inyo County. Runners in this event will start at Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park and will end at Mt. Whitney Portal. The following state highways will be affected Monday through Wednesday, 24 hours a day:

·    State Route 190 from just east of Furnace Creek to the junction of State Route 136.

·    U.S. Highway 395 from the junction of State Route 136 to Whitney Portal Road.

There are no lane or highway closures planned for this event. Drivers who encounter runners on the side of the road are asked to slow down, give them space, and wait for an opportunity to safely pass them.

 

Mono County

 

·    Mammoth Lakes Tree Work – On State Route 203 from Forest Trail to U.S. 395, crews will trim trees Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

·    June Lake Loop Paving – On State Route 158 from Aspen Road to Bay Street, crews will pave entrances to driveways on Tuesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

·    Conway Summit Pole Replacement – On U.S. 395 approximately 4 miles south of State Route 270 (Bodie Road), utility crews will replace poles on Monday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

·    Bridgeport Pole Replacement – On U.S. 395 from Sinclair Street to just west of Emigrant Street, utility crews will replace poles on Monday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 5-minute delays.

 


Ongoing Traffic Impacts


 

Inyo County

 

·    Bishop Pavement Project – The southbound outside lane of U.S. 395 and sidewalk between Academy Avenue and Line Street are closed for sidewalk and drainage work and turns onto Academy Avenue and Church Street are unavailable. State Route 168 W (W. Line Street) will remain fully closed between U.S. 395 and Fowler next week while crews replace drainage infrastructure, install new traffic lights, and construct new pedestrian curbs. The speed limit is reduced to 35 mph from See Vee Lane to Wye Road. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

·    City of Bishop Water Main Replacement Project – On State Route 168 W (W. Line Street) from Fowler Street to U.S. 395, the road will fully close intermittently while the City of Bishop replaces its water line. There will be temporary lane closures from Red Hill Road to Barlow Lane as well. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Detours are available.

·    Manzanar Pavement Project – On U.S. 395 from Fish Hatchery Road near the Fort Independence Reservation to 2.5 miles south of the Manzanar National Historic Site, crews are rehabilitating the pavement, constructing pedestrian bulbouts in Independence, and installing a flashing pedestrian beacon with a mast arm at Market Street. All traffic has switched to the new northbound lanes using a temporary crossover about two miles south of Manzanar while crews rehabilitate the southbound lanes. One lane in each direction is closed in town and turns onto several cross streets are unavailable from U.S. 395. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph and 25 mph within Independence. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Drivers may experience delays.

·    Lone Pine Sidewalks Project – On U.S. 395 in Lone Pine, the outside lane and shoulders in both directions are closed while crews build sidewalks and replace drainage infrastructure in the following locations:

·    From Teya Road to Inyo Street,

·    From Locust Road to E. Lubken Avenue.

Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

 

Mono County

 

·    Rock Creek Pavement Project – On U.S. 395 near Tom’s Place, crews will construct new lighting at the Tom’s Place intersection. There will be intermittent lane closures and drivers may experience brief delays. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph through the project area. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.

 

The Manzanar Pavement Project received $44.64 million and the Bishop Pavement Project received $18.36 million from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA) – also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Under IIJA, California will receive an estimated $41.9 billion over five years. IIJA provides significant funding to rebuild California’s transportation system, including support to improve roadways, bridges, freight projects, public transportation, infrastructure safety enhancements, and to increase infrastructure resiliency to the impacts of severe weather and climate change. The Manzanar Pavement Project received $5.78 million, the Bishop Pavement Project received $2.4 million, and the Rock Creek Pavement Project received $2.1 million from Senate Bill (SB) 1. SB 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1.
