INYO NATIONAL FOREST

ROCK FIRE AREA CLOSURE

 

Pursuant to 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(a), and to provide for public safety, the following acts are prohibited within the Inyo National Forest. This Order is effective from July 23, 2026, through December 31, 2026.

 

Entering or being on National Forest System lands within the Rock Fire Closure Area, as described below and shown on Exhibit A. 36 C.F.R. §§ 261.52(a); 261.53(e).

 

The boundary for the Rock Fire Closure Area:

 

a) Begins at Forest Road 33E320 and the Forest Boundary (118°19'34"W 37°4'35"N),

 

b) The boundary then continues west along the north side of Forest Road 33E306 and the Birch Lake Trail to the Inyo National Forest Boundary at the NW corner of T 10S, R 32E Section 23,

 

c) Then extends SSW to 118°26'49"W 37°4'9"N on the boundary between Inyo National Forest and Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park.

 

d) Then continues south and east approximately 13 miles along the Inyo National Forest and Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Park boundary to the intersection of the boundaries at Sawmill Pass in the NE quarter of Section 28, T 12S, R 33E (118°21'53"W 36°52'59"N).

 

e) Then continues east and north along the southern edge of Sawmill Pass Trail to the intersection of Sawmill Pass Trailhead and Forest Road 12S102 at the SE corner of Section 8, T 12S, R 34E (118°17'18"W 36°54'45"N).

 

f) Then continues east along the southern edge of Forest Road 12S102 to the Inyo National Forest Boundary in the NE quarter of Section 8, T 12S, R 34E (118°16'21"W 36°55'29"N).

 

g) Then continues north along the boundary between the Inyo National Forest and the Bureau of Land Management back to the starting point of the closure description boundary, as shown on the attached map (Exhibit A).

 

Pursuant to 36 C.F.R. § 261.50(e), the following persons are exempt from this Order:

 

Persons with Forest Service Permit No. FS-7700-48 (Permit for Use of Roads, Trails, or Areas Restricted by Regulation or Order), specifically exempting them from this Order.

 

Any Federal, State, or local officer, or member of an organized rescue or fire-fighting force in the performance of an official duty.

 

This prohibition is in addition to the general prohibitions contained in 36 C.F.R. Part 261, Subpart A. A violation of this prohibition is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for an organization, or imprisonment for not more than six months, or both. 16 U.S.C. § 551 and 18 U.S.C. §§ 3559, 3571, and 3581.
